Monsoon has entered the Comodo area along southern India and western Sri Lanka, including the Maldives, but there is a risk of cyclone-like conditions forming in the Arabian Sea. If it forms, Maharashtra and Gujarat along with the entire Konkan may be affected, the Meteorological Department has predicted.
A low pressure area will form over the Arabian Sea on June 5 and the low pressure area will intensify and turn into a cyclone by June 7. Skymat, a private weather agency, has predicted the possibility of a cyclone in the second week of June. According to Accuweather's Hawaan experts, the temperature of the Arabian Sea is favorable for the formation of cyclones. Although there is no definite date on which it will land, this cyclone poses a threat to the coast of Maharashtra along with Gujarat.
Cyclones forming around Kerala or Maldives tend to move northwards, but more often than not, these cyclones forming in the Arabian Sea are likely to move towards Oman instead of moving towards Maharashtra and Gujarat. Often these cyclones form in the ocean and dissipate in the ocean itself. However, it is likely to affect Gujarat along with Maharashtra. This may cause heavy rainfall in coastal areas of Maharashtra and Mumbai. Meteorologists have also said that the direction of the storm will be determined after the formation of a low pressure zone in the Arabian Sea.
