Varanasi: Mafia and former MLA Mukhtar Ansari have been convicted in the Awadhesh Rai murder case that has been pending for nearly three decades. MPMLA Court of Varanasi has given this verdict. Ansari will now be sentenced at 2 pm.
Awadhesh Rai murder case is 32 years ago. Ansari can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment if found guilty. Security has been increased in the court area after the hearing. Ansari has been convicted in four cases in the past year. However, Awadhesh Rai murder case is important in all these cases. Ansari will be able to challenge this in the High Court.
On 3 August 1991, Awadhesh Rai was murdered outside his house in Lahurabir, Varanasi. The assailants in the van had killed Awadhesh by firing indiscriminately. Younger brother Ajay Rai was also there at the time of the incident. Chetganj Police Station was at a call distance from there.
Along with Mukhtar Ansari, former MLAs Abdul Kalam, Bhim Singh, Kamlesh Singh and Rakesh Srivastava alias Rakesh Judiciary were also named in the murder case. Ansari had disappeared the case diary from the court to escape from this crime. Awadhesh Rai's brother and former MLA Ajay Rai had filed an FIR against Mukhtar Ansari and other accused.
Mukhtar Ansari, who is responsible for the death of the two accused, is currently in Banda Jail and Bhim Singh is in Gazipur Jail. Kamlesh Singh and Abdul Kalam have died. As the fifth accused Rakesh separated the file of this case, the case is going on in the Prayagraj Sessions Court.
